Machine Screw Anchor vs. Sleeve Anchor
Both expand in a drilled hole, but they are sized for different loads.
| Feature | Machine Screw Anchor | Sleeve Anchor |
|---|---|---|
| Fastener | Separate machine screw | Built-in stud and nut |
| Load | Light to medium | Medium to heavy |
| Diameter | #8 to 3/8 | 1/4 to 3/4 |
| Best surface | Block, brick, thin fixtures | Concrete, brick, block |
| Removal | Screw out, sleeve stays | Nut off, stud stays |
Verdict
For light fixtures on block or brick, a machine screw anchor is plenty. For anything heavier in concrete, step up to a sleeve anchor.
