Wall Plug vs. Drywall Anchor
Both are plastic sleeves, but one is general-purpose and the other is shaped for hollow drywall.
| Feature | Wall Plug | Drywall Anchor |
|---|---|---|
| Material | Nylon or polyethylene | Plastic (tapered) |
| Best surface | Brick, block, masonry | Hollow drywall |
| Shape | Straight split sleeve | Tapered with ribs |
| Screw | Wood screw | Wood or sheet-metal screw |
| Load | Light | Light to medium |
Verdict
In brick or block, use a wall plug. In hollow drywall, a tapered drywall anchor grips better โ and for heavy loads, skip both and use a toggle.
